Is your sleep disrupted during the night? I have a solution
I love to sleep, but after moving into an old apartment building in downtown Paris I was waking all through the night.
For more than 1 year I was suffering from disrupted sleep, and this was affecting all aspects of my life: ๐ฅฑ
- Struggling to get up in the morning
- Difficulty focussing on hard mental tasks
- Impacting my mood
- Slowing my runs
It got so bad we were even contemplating moving house.
Well, I found a solution and want to share it with you.
Blocking out noise
The usual approach to stopping noise at night is to wear earplugs.
I tried this a few times but could not get comfortable with objects shoved in my ears. I tried falling asleep with Bluetooth earphones but invariably I would wake up when they fell out. ๐
I then recalled a tactic we used with our children when they were babies. If it worked for them, maybe this could work for me now?
White Noise
I discovered that playing white noise tracks during the night was the solution. Since starting this I have been sleeping like a baby. ๐ถThe white-noise acts like an audio blanket, which does not block out external sounds but kind of smooths them out which is perfect for sleep. ๐
The setup
Here are the steps to follow:
- Find a white noise soundtrack, I use Spotify.
- ๐ฆAvoid the tracks which overlay weird noises (like birds).
- It must last at least 8 hours or set up a looping playlist. ๐
Then with your phone or a speaker next to your bed set it off and settle into a great night sleep. ๐ด
