How to live in a city without a car
In 2020, I moved to Paris, France. π₯
Then, I sold my car and decided to try city life with my family without one. Exploring new forms of transport including my incredible Onewheel.
Here are my top methods for moving around the city.
Public transport:
Most people think it is a hassle to use.
But with mobile phones and mapping apps, you can plan and move around a city with ease. Mixing π buses, π metros and π trains you can reach almost any location quickly.
It is also incredibly cheap.
Bike and e-scooter services:
These have exploded and can be found everywhere in the city.
The benefits are:
β’ A couple of taps on your mobile and you are off.
β’ Convenient as you can leave them at your destination
β’ π No worries about security or maintenance.
Electric Car-sharing apps β‘:
Great when:
β’ Taking journies outside the city
β’ Transporting multiple people
β’ Carrying shopping/luggage π§³
They are ubiquitous around the city.
You just need an app and can leave them at your destination (within the city).
Taxis:
With the rise of Uber and similar, the use of taxies is now too easy.
They can be very cost competitive to the car-sharing services.
π
You also have the benefit that the taxi driver generally knows the right routes and you can relax on the journey.
Onewheel:
My personal favouriteβ¦

Out with the old
New business models and technology has changed city life.
Don’t assume that the world is the same as 10 years ago when a personal car was the primary way to move around.
Try it out! Grab your smartphone and go explore all these amazing ways to travel. π
